Pool and Spa Safety
Fencing:
Regulations require that all swimming pool and spas which have an excess of 30cm of water depth be fenced for safety. This means having the pool or spa enclosed within a boundary via a fence which is at least 1.2 m in height. The gate which provides access to the swimming pool or spa is required to be self-closing and latched. When installing a pool and spa enclosure ensure that the gate opens away from the pool or spa.
Important notes:
- Fencing must be available prior to pool and spa filling.
- Maintenance should be conducted regular to ensure compliance
- Ensure that no object like chairs, tables etc are located close to the fencing, this prevents children from using these items to climb over the fencing enclosure.
Pool Covers:
Pool covers are designed to maintain pool temperature and chemical levels. From a safety perspective it is advised that all pool covers are totally extracted from the pool. This will prevent any person being trapped or covered by the cover and ensure a safe swimming environment.
